Our new Camper

So the town we live in has decided that people with campers next to their home are a nuisance and told us to hide it or get ride of it. Tony decided to fight but quickly realized he was fighting a losing battle. The town had made every law under the sun to make it impossible for us to keep it here. I could go on, but I won't. We decided to solve this problem by purchasing a camper that would fold up into our garage. It's not a pop up because it is hard sided, but called a Trailmanor. Completely put up, it's 27 feet. Folded and put away, it's 19 feet. It's not as roomy, but it works and we like it. It is a lot more work to set up and take down, but we can keep it at our house and it cost less to upgrade than it would have to store the camper at a storage unit, which was not an option in our book!

Here are some pictures of the new camper and a video link on how it sets up and down.

A Time For Change

Whether you voted for our new President Elect or not, we all can agree...it is a time for change! A change in scenery!

My favorite time of year is fall, when the leaves change and the weather turns crisp.

We just completely what is most likely our last hikes of the season. That is, unless we have more weather like we did over the Halloween weekend.

Here is a slide show of some of the beautiful fall foliage and my family enjoying the gorgeous weather we had.

October - My Favorite Month

It's been too long since I have posted. I began working at Riverside School. This is the school my girls will attend in 5th through 8th grade. I work in the cafeteria and love it!

Not much else to post. Here is a slide show of some of the events in October that I wanted to share.

Enjoy!

Turkey Run Weekend

So we missed the storms in western Indiana and we were welcomed by heat and about 85% humidity. That's fine. After the set up of the camper and our tent for Whit & Drew, we headed out for a hike at about 7:30 pm on Friday night. During this hike, our camera finally gave out, so all I have are a few pictures to share.

Other than that, it was a great weekend! Whit & Drew joined us for their first camping trip as hubby and wife, and seemed to have a good time! We had a great time with them. The hiking on Saturday was great as well as a relaxing afternoon by the pool and then a lovely evening by the fire! A few s'mores for those who wanted, which, I believe, was everyone! Some great stories and star gazing. We had gone to a planetarium show just that afternoon so we were trying to figure out the constellations the instructor had shown us. A little hard to do with a few rum & cokes under my belt! But a beautiful night it was!

Here is the very short slide show of our Friday night dusk hike. It was very hazy and very interesting. We saw a snake, a milk snake, which we mistook for a copperhead (evidently common according to my research!) and a fair share of frogs and 1 small lizard! Oh and I can't forget the raccoon that escaped us by climbing a tree!

June 2008 Vacation Photos

Here are some photos of our recent trip. No music, sorry. If you want to, sing Cheryl Crow's "Soak Up the Sun" and you will have what I wanted to do, but Photoshow wouldn't let me!

Day 11 – Thursday June 26, 2008
Last day. We headed for home just after 11am. Arrived around 1pm. Glad to be home, but it's back to reality. We have rented the camper out through GetRV.com so we now have to get it ready for that. My family room in completely covered in laundry and bedding and things in the camper that we won't leave for the renters. It was a great vacation. I love that our children are getting better at hiking and more adventurous. Our next adventure will be to Indiana Beach in mid July. This is a small amusement park and beach on Lake Shaffer. We will see how that goes. We get free camping from the RV dealer we purchased the camper from otherwise we probably would not go.
Day 10 – Wednesday June 25, 2008
Because of the rain on Tuesday, there was not much we could do today because of the mud and bugs. We are adventurous, just not that adventurous. We decided to bike ride around the campground. We also rode to the nature center. This took about an hour or so total. After lunch we hung out in the camper and watched movies and played games. We couldn't stay in the camper anymore. We decided to head back to Nashville for dinner, but then decided on Columbus instead. This is about 30 minutes east of where we were. After getting lost we were able to find some chain restaurants, one being Red Lobster. This sounded just fine. After dinner we went back to camp and chilled watching movies and reading.
Day 9 – Tuesday June 24, 2008
Today we decided to do some biking. BIG MISTAKE. Their “easy” trail is not easy unless you are a new mountain biker. We even asked some bikers if our kids could do it and they said it should be okay. HA! We got about 100 feet in and had to turn around. It was narrow, steep, and scary for the girls, not to mention Layla kept falling down. Tony and I would have had a blast, but not this trip. We decided to do a 3 mile trail by our campsite. This trail is marked rugged. It's basically flat until you get about 2/3 through. Then it goes up hill with plenty of twists and turns, oh and bugs! We were near water so the bugs where thick and curious! About ½ mile from the end we surprised a wild turkey just off the path that scared us out of our hiking boots. He flapped his wings and gobbled. Those things are huge! Tony had his hiking stick ready! This is bobcat country and before we knew what it was making all the racked we wanted to be ready!

After the trail we headed to the pool only to be run out by a nasty storm. Of course, our towels were wet and buggy. After dinner, we just hung out. Not a whole lot to do really.
Day 8 – Monday June 23, 2008
We got up early and headed back to the tunnel for some more exploration. Pretty much the same. We then headed to the creek and this time NOT in the wrong direction. We stayed in the same area to look at fossils and stomp in the water. We were short on time. We had to be out of our camping spot by 2pm. After about an hour we headed back. Went into Madison to do some laundry and get lunch, then back to the camper to pack up and head to Brown County State Park.

We arrived at our site about 5pm. Brown county is the largest of Indiana's State parks at just under 16,000 acres. Our camp site took up at least 10 minutes to get to from our check in. We are way back. Good and bad. Good because it's very quiet, bad because there is no security and it's very dense. Bugs galore. Bugs don't bother us, but they can get annoying and the spiders love their new neighbors! The tree and grass spiders have made our tires their new home!

We decided to go into Nashville Indiana for dinner only to find Nashville shuts down at around 6pm during the week. We found one restaurant open. It was good, but over priced. Then back to the camper and to bed. But before that we watched the wildlife – a few deer and a curious racoon! They are so cute!
Day 7– Sunday June 22, 2008
We took this day as a day off from hiking! We slept till about 10, then had lunch and then to the pool. This pool had a great slide for the kids oh and Tony. I decided to finish a book and the water was too cold for me anyway. Only real event was the pool shut down do to pop up thunder storms. That night after dinner, Tony was wanting to get out and do something so he and the girls went to the local playground. There was a tire swing. I went to join them a few minutes later only to find them coming back and both girls were green at the gills. Daddy had swung them in circles at about a 1000 MPH! Not good on a full belly!
Day 6 – Saturday, June 21, 2008
First full day at Clifty Falls. We headed straight for our favorite trail and the Tunnel. This is a man-made cave in Clifty Falls State Park. At about 600 feet long it's not too hard to negotiate, but it is completely dark and wet. There is at about 100 feet in an opening above you that goes up about 100 feet. We usually see bats in here but not this time. About ½ way in was a natural spring and pool. Very small but here we saw cave spiders and salamanders. We have yet to identify these. As soon as we get back to Internet access and or a library we will have names for you. Also among the reptilians where tadpoles. We didn't come across any snakes, but we did find a sole to a dress shoe and socks.

Saturday also gave us a great deal of fun. After the tunnel, we continued our trek to the infamous Trail 2. This trail goes along a creek, sorry, don't know the name right now. This is where we find more fossils than you can imagine. You are not allowed to take them out of the park, but to just look is amazing. To think about this park at one point was part of the ocean just boggles the mind. As we ventured south about 2 miles we came upon trail 8. What is the significance of this trail you may ask, well nothing really, except it was 2 miles in the wrong direction. Now, I can't blame this on Tony, but it he was the map reader and I didn't second guess him even though I wanted to. I figured he knew, right? So we found a trail, that of course, half way through was closed due to land slides. We maneuvered around it and headed toward the road, only to find we were over 2 miles from our car. At this point we had been hiking for about 3 hours. We came to a playground. Tony left us there and went to retrieve the car. What a trooper! He ran about 2/3 of the way back – 1.4 miles at this point, to get the truck and pick us up! 20 minutes later, we were on our way back to our camper. We decided to shower, change, and head into Madison for pizza and ice cream. Pizza was at a mom & pop pizza place that was very good. We then went to the famous Mundtz Candies and Ice cream only to find it closed for remodeling. What? This place has been here since 1857. What remodeling? We love this place so much we would drive from Fishers to Madison, Indiana just for the ice cream. It's been featured on the food network many times. How dare they close! Didn't they know we were coming? Oh well. A few blocks down is Kalidescoop. We had our fix and headed back to the camper!
Day 5 – Friday, June 20, 2008
So my cell phone, I thought, was set to 6:45am to alarm us to wake up. OOPS! At 7am is rang. HMMMM! Okay, so the day didn't start off great and you know what that means, not a great morning. Actually it wasn't bad, until we tried to get to the Zoo. OMG – what a mess. I won't go into detail, but we had a hard time finding it because of all the construction, then parking wasn't what it was supposed to be. After deciding to just park (with the camper,) we headed off to the Zoo on foot. Turns out it was free day! Great you might think, but no, not great, it was packed! It's a good zoo, but I like Indianapolis's zoo much better. We hurried through, and left only to find our camper & truck completely blocked in by cars. Some people just don't think. We got out, but barely and not without some colorful, but not dirty, words from Tony and I. We kept those words to ourselves. With construction, getting out was no fun, but we did it. The girls had fun and that's what matters.

We then headed to Clifty. After check-in and set up, we had dinner – hot dogs – oooo yum (not really!) I would love a steak right now! This has really been the best. We had dinner, played some trak ball – a must for all – then sat around the campfire and made S'mores. We then read books while the girls' rode bikes. This campground is great for that. No traffic, lots of kids, and quiet! We all went for a ride, then came back to play Zingo – a family favorite. Now – at 10pm- the kids are playing with our “neighbor” kids catching lightning bugs (not killing them – right Mom?), doing ring around the rosey and chasing each other. It is the best thing in the world to witness. It's cheesy, but I'm sort of getting choked up just watching them. We haven't watched any TV today. I love it. We picked a campsite that has a green space next to it. It's great! We have our own “back yard!” Tomorrow we will chill, possibly swim and do some hiking. I need a rest day!

Edit: at about 10pm we watched 2 small bats have an all you can eat buffet with the bugs. It was great!
Day 4 – Thursday, June 19, 2008
Today we got up at 8am to be at KI by 10am. That was a little hard, but after coffee and breakfast, we were ready to roll. It was a perfect day. 80Ish degrees with a cloudless sky. I vowed to not get wet today and that was A-Okay with me (Rene.) By 1 we were bored and tired and ready to go. We decided to surprise the girls and take them to the water park (originally planned but scrapped because the weather was not going to cooperate.) Tony found me a beach chair under a cabana. I slept, and they played. I was just totally beat! I don't sleep well and being in the camper makes it harder to sleep. Thank goodness Tony is a very understanding guy – plus – I was not wearing a swim suit and it was just way to cold for me. It has to be hotter than 90 for me to do the water parks. After about 3 hours we went back t camp, did dinner, then cleaned up. We decided Friday would be a trip to the Cincinnati Zoo on our way to Clifty Falls State Park in Madison Indiana! Early to bed, early to rise.........HA!
Day 3 – Wednesday, June 18, 2008
Again slept until 9ish. After coffee and breakfast we hung out until lunch, then we headed into Waynesville. There is a bike path that runs the length of the Little Miami River. 78 miles of path to be exact. We only conquered oh, about 5 miles. It was great, but boring. We couldn't see the river, which was why we went this way. So we decided to go to Corwin Peddler's, a small bistro in an old Victorian, for some ice cream. BUT, they happened to only be open Thursday through Monday and of course, this was Wednesday. Tony talked to a local and directed us into downtown Waynesville. Very cool! Mainstreet was all antique shops and one happened to be an ice cream parlor with great service, prices and fantastic ice cream. We sat outside, then walked Main to peruse the shoppes! After deciding that little people have no business in antique shops we headed back to camp. Our plan was to trek to KI again, but my (Rene) feet were very tired. We took the kids to the pool with the water as cold as ice, but they didn't seem to mind. I read a book and Tony kept me company. Dinner was cheeseburgers and potato salad and then some chocolate for dessert!
Day 2 – Tuesday, June 17, 2008
Slept until 9ish. Not a common thing for us Keatons. After coffee and breakfast we hung out, got in showers and lunch and then headed to KI around 2pm to find the parking lot full. We decided to turn around and head to the movie theater. Kung Fu Panda was the pick of the afternoon and not bad if you are a Jack Black fan! I still have a hard time with how much it costs to go to a movie these days. With tickets, popcorn, and one drink - $40+. Kind of makes the movie hard to enjoy, but we did our best and the girls liked it and that is what counts! After the movie we then decided to give KI another try. Still pretty busy, but not as busy. It was two for Tuesday's, where if you are a Gold Pass holder, you can ride 2x without getting off the ride. It's been our experience that you can actually ride more time by getting off and then getting back on, then waiting for your turn to ride 2x. This also made for longer lines than before. Still, a good time was had by all.

June 2008 Vacation

Day 1 – Monday, June 16, 2008
Arrive at Cedarbrook Campground around noon. Set up and headed straight for the pool. The water was, well, not warm! We swam or a few hours, had dinner and then headed to Kings Island around 6pm. This was a great time to go! No crowds, weather was good, and we were able to ride many rides without a wait. We watched the fireworks at 10pm from the parking lot, then headed back to camp. One thing we learned is this is the year for the Cincinnati cicada. They are every where and loud. We didn't have any in Fishers, or at least where I lived in 2004 when our cicadas came out. Our girls have never seen or heard them. It was quite an experience for them. One woman said that riding in the front seat of the Beast was less jerky, but you had to worry about getting pelted by cicadas. That's my fav ride, but no thanks.

More Fun

Thought I would share one more video and some more photos from this past weekend. Turns out the mic on the camera was turned off, but you can still see the excitement from Maya when she got off the sling shot!

My Daughter the Dare Devil

This weekend we went to Mason, Ohio for a weekend at Kings Island. This is the second year in a row we went for our youngest's birthday. We are season pass holders so we try and go as many weekends as we can. We start the season with Layla's Bday and end it with Maya's bday in October!

This year was a big one! Maya is now tall enough to ride almost all the rides.

On day 1, I was dared by Tony to do the Sling Shot, a ride where you are in a cage and then shot into the air where you spin around. Basically a reverse bungee. Not a problem. Here is a picture to prove it's really me. That's a teenage boy, I don't know, next to me.

Here is a short video of my ride! There is no sound.

And of course, Maya just had to do it also. My brave brave child! She drew quite a crowd actually.

Here we are, just before take-off!
And the video! I wish there was sound although all you would here would be me screaming and Maya yelling AWESOME! THIS IS SO AWESOME!

We used the digital camera and the mic must not be working. Oh well. A good time was had by all. I also was able to get Maya on the Vortex, with 4 loops and 2 corkscrews! She wanted to get off and get right back on! Layla is now big enough to ride the Fairly Odd Coaster (aka the Beastie to us old folks) by herself and in the front seat no less. Here she is!
There is more and I will post later!

Our First RV Trip of the Season

This is a long story of our adventure this last week. I'm just so excited to share!

After days of trying to figure out were we where going to go on our spring break, we finally settled on Cedar Ridge RV Resort in Bloomington, Indiana. We chose this place because it was close, just a 1 hour 45 min drive for us. Diesel is so high now that we wanted to keep it real close. We are really glad we chose this place. Because of the weather possibly being bad, this park worked perfectly. There was an indoor pool to occupy most of our time, but when the weather was nice, we headed into the woods on their trail, which, if we dared, we were able to venture off of, and yes, we dared!

Our first day, Wednesday, we had pretty skies and not too bad wind and the temp was about 65 degrees. We parked, set up the camper, then headed into the woods! We could immediately here the water falls, but could not see them from the trail. We followed a creek as far as we could go. It was about a 60 degree slope and to difficult to go down without assistance. The ground was wet and no good footing. Tony went and got a rope, used his knot tying skills, and proceeded to sort of repel down. It was only about 10-15 ft. Then I followed, not too bad, until I slipped at the end and landed in the mud next to the creek and some very cold water! After Tony stopped laughing at me, he went back up and brought the girls down one by one. Our adventure was going to be even better than we thought. When down the hill, we discovered TWO water falls!

We decided to take the closer one first. It was very slippery so you had to watch your step. Mine was not without a slip or two! The creek bed was greenish yellow in color with some burnt orange outer edges ornamented with lush spots of dark green algae, and smooth as ice. The sound of the water fall was very soothing, like small waves crashing along the shore. Many birds sang there songs and entertained us as we tried to figure which birds were talking and where they were. Along the way we found many small fossils and geodes. It still amazes me that we were walking were once, millions of years ago, small ocean life once lived.

The creek was only an inch or two deep at the most, but very cold. Once we made it to the water fall, we were just in awe! It was really gorgeous. Nothing huge, Maybe 15 ft high.It was so freeing that we could do this, get this close without a guide , a paid tour, or bars to keep us back. I always find myself wanting to know how this was made. What caused the waterfall? What made the bowl shape under it? It's just wonderful and the girls were having the time of their lives! All the amazing fossils we were finding, their smiles, my smile, Tony's smile. Seeing how much fun they were having gave me that warm fuzzy feeling! I LOVE my family!

At first I was a little apprehensive about the repel and the girls, but afterwards, I was so glad we took that little risk. I knew Tony would not let them get hurt. Honestly, the most they would have gotten was muddy with some scrapes.

Then it was time to go back down and head over to the other, bigger water fall. This one was a little more tricky. The trek was a little longer, slightly steeper, and a whole lot more slippery! It too was surrounded by fossils and unusual rocks. This one was probably 25 or more feet high and had more water running down. One thing we all noticed was the geodes slowly coming out from the shale bowl of the water fall. It will probably take another 1/2 million years(+/-) before they are able to be free. Yet another amazement on how our earth has evolved.

This trip too was not without it's battles. My oldest, decided to step on a loose rock and landed right in a 2 inch deep puddle! All she could do was laugh! Of course, we all joined in!

At the end of day 1, we decided to swim until close at 6pm, then back at the camper we had coney dogs with bacon and mac & cheese. We did not have a fire ring, but that's okay, we did bring a grill. The weather turned and the wind and rain were coming in. Because of the wind, and occasional rain, no S'mores were made this trip.

Day 2, Thursday, would eventually lead us to beautiful downtown Bloomington. But before the weather change we decided to take another trail. Very fun! We found many deer tracks, saw a few rabbit and chipmunks. At the end of the trail, we decided to take the creek bed back. This time, my youngest was the victim of a slippery rock! This creek bed was very rocky and a little deeper, maybe 3-4 inches in some areas. We found a large turtle, with a dark shell and beautiful yellow markings. The shell was about the size of a small mixing bowl. Then more deer tracks, and more fossils filled the rest of the journey. As the creek came to it's end the gloomy, cold weather was moving in. So to the camper for lunch, then to the truck and into down town Bloomington.

We couldn't decide where to go, but we did know we wanted off the IU campus. It's Little 500 weekend and boy did it show. People EVERYWHERE. So our journey took us to the Wonderlab Museum of Science. After a hunt to find parking for a large crew cab truck, we became successful and found a spot about 2 blocks from the museum. Umbrellas and jackets in hand, we walk the sidewalk and admired the historic views of old Victorians, and stores. We spent over two hours at the museum. Dragging the kids away to find food was hard, but I think dragging Tony away was even harder!

By the end, we were hungry! My sister is an Alum of IU so I called her up to get food recommendations. Unfortunately these places were packed with Little 5 visitors and probably not real family friendly, more for the college folk. So we headed to Colorado Steak House just outside of campus. MMMMM! After a hardy meal we headed back. That night was not the best sleep. Really hard rains and winds that would rock the camper pretty good kept me from enjoying some rest. Occasional lightning and thunder would sound it's alarm, but it was far off. Thank goodness!

Day 3, Friday, brought us bad weather at first, but then warmed to about 70 and windy. We promised the girls they could swim in the indoor pool that day, rain or shine. Fun for them....and me! I read a book for a little while, then decided to get in with the girls. Tony played solitaire on the PC. Our laptop would not pick up the Wi-fi for some reason. We also played a couple of round of mini-golf. Nothing too complicated. Because this is the beginning of the season, we had the place to ourselves. I thing only 2 other, single campers were there. That night sleeping wasn't too bad, but very cold. Temps dropped into the mid to lower 40s. We have a furnace, but the thermostat is weird and when the furnace kicks on, it's VERY loud. I'm not a sound sleeper, especially in strange places. Luckily, everyone else is! Totally not fair if you ask me! Thank goodness for strong coffee!

Day 4, Saturday, after a nice breakfast, we packed up and headed home. And it was a good thing. 20+ MPH winds, rain, and about 40 degrees outside and dropping. A quick stop at Steak-n-Shake for lunch and Wally World for some supplies, then home we went. After about an hour of unpacking, the kids went to the neighbors to play and Tony and I chilled on the sofa and did something we hadn't done in 4 days. Watched TV!

Pictures and some video to follow!

Next weekend, here we come!

And We're Off!

It's official! Our first camping trip in our new camper has been planned for Turkey Run State Park. We will be leaving soon and can't wait! Here is the outside. It was brought to my attention that I had not posted a picture of it!

We made some upgrades to the camper yesterday as well as packed away the kitchen and bath.

It's just amazing to us how much storage we have. We added the cleaning supplies, blankets, laundry hamper, hooks for bath towels (not pictured,) and a rail for the top bunk. We also added shelving to one of the closets next to the bed, and the plastic bins we found at Walmart to hold toiletries as well as what ever we may need to put in them.

Just had to add this one of DH with his goofy smile! Hey, at least he's smiling. He never smiles for pictures! He's so cute! Just had to show him off!

One of the big upgrades was switching out the hardware on the cabinets to pulls instead of knobs. This is the old knob. We kept getting caught on them and it was hard for the girls to open the cabinets with these.

Here is Tony installing the new ones. He found a template to help with location of the holes. Took us a total of less than 30 min to do 13 handles!

And here is the finished product. It serves two purposes. 1) easier to open and we don't get our clothes caught on them and 2)They make a great towel holder!

I'm sure our first trip is not going to be without it's "Oh I wish we would have done ____ before we left." or "Next time we need to do ___ to____ and that will make better use of ____."

Check back often and look for more pictures and stories and I leave you with these words of wisdom that I'm sure most need to abide by......

When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money. ~Susan Heller

It's Here!

We finally brought our new baby home! Now if only the weather would get warmer so we can actually take it out! Here are some short videos of the inside!

This is the rest of the video. For some reason it would only upload in sections. Disregard me yelling at the kids! ;o)! Oh and my oldest, for those who don't know her, is not camera shy!

Camping....in our driveway

Diesel is hovering around $4.20/gallon here in Indy. We've already decided to keep our vacation close to home. And we decided, we will also make our first few nights in our camper, well, really close to home.......our driveway! Sounds crazy, eh? I thought so until I read in some of the RV forums that a lot of people are doing it because of the cost of fuel. And, as in our case, our kids can't wait to try it out. We don't have it yet and the temps are still dropping to low to try, but as soon as it gets here, both the weather and the camper, a camping we will go.

Next to follow is the fire ring and the smell of smoldering marshmallows, laughter, string lights hanging from the awning, and a sign saying the Keaton's Place. Oh,and we can't forget the sweet sound of the bug zapper buzzing in our ears.

Think the neighbors would mind?

Remember When Gas....

.....was $.95? Remember when you really didn't pay attention to what it was per gallon? Remember when you could pull up to a full service station, ask for $5 worth and get more than a half a tank? It's slowly becoming a cloudy memory to me and that makes me very sad.

I was driving to buy the necessities at the store (eggs, milk, Rx.) I drove by the corner gas station and broke down into tears. $3.45! It is a total Keaton curse I tell you! I wish I knew which Keaton cursed us so I can curse them, it's just not fair! Just as we get ahead and decide to do something big, i.e. purchase a camper, something else comes along and steals our thunder! Usually, it's a major appliance needing extensive repair, or even replacement, or a vehicle with a transmission issue. It's never something a few dollars can fix. Regular gas isn't really the issue at hand here, it's the diesel I'm concerned about. Diesel is what fuels the truck that pulls the camper. Diesel is why my DH bought the truck in the first place....lower than average fuel prices for diesel. Diesel is what we need to get around this awesome country and enjoy our travels. And diesel, is now at $4 a gallon! What will it be in a month? We don't plan on going far, but that's beside the point. What's going to happen next season, and the next, and so on? I don't want to let gas prices dictate our adventures, but it sure is putting a damper on how I feel about the whole thing.

I found this website called Gasbuddy.com . You can type in your location and it will tell you the gas prices in your area. Great, right? Doesn't help me if the gas prices are this high!

Someone told me a joke, oh, about 20+ years ago. It goes-------save gas......fart in a jar!

Man I wish I liked beans!

We can't wait!

I'm restless. We want to get our camper here and play with it so bad. I feel like a kid at Christmas time!

My husband is the same way. He has found a couple of forums all about the RV life. It's a whole different world. Sailors have their own language: aft, port, bow, galley, head. Turns out so do RVers! RV lingo is something I wasn't planning on. Blackwater = sewage, graywater = sink/shower runoff, boondocking = Camping in your RV without water or electrical hook-ups. Oh and don't forget the abbreviations GTWR,GVWR,RBR,VBR! It's funny though to hear hubby asking about posting comments, and signatures, avatars, and abbreviations! I guess I really didn't realize how much I spend on my forums. Maybe too much, oops!

We checked out a bunch of books from the library about RVing. Really a bunch of common sense with some very good information thrown in the mix. My dad's hobby is flying. On the rare occasion I get to fly with him. It's interesting to see him go through his pre-flight check list. It's really the same for the camper. If you don't go through all the steps, something bad could really happen. Forgetting a toothbrush is no big deal, but forgetting to lock the hitch onto the ball could equal a really bad thing!

It is going to be a total work in progress and some of the things we see on these forums are crazy and some are genius! We will see which one we become.

I'm going to go with crazy!

This should be fun!

As a reader of a blog every now and then, I have yet to take the plunge and start one. We recently purchased a travel trailer (camper) for the family to have weekend adventures and week long to month long summer vacations. Of course about a week after we figured we could financially afford it, the gas prices skyrocketed and from what I hear, are only going to go up. Of course, that's the Keaton luck at it's best! Anyway.... I really wanted to keep track of our adventures and figured this would be great way to do it. I'm not a scrapbook person so that was out of the question, but I didn't want these adventures to go unpublished. This is perfect! So here we go! I'm not much of a writer, so bear with me if you will.

It's been 2 weeks since we purchased the camper and it's still sitting in the dealer's storage. We want to get it here as soon as possible, but we have yet to sell the utility trailer that is currently in the new camper's spot. This comes to us as a shock, for we were positive it would have been sold in less than a week. We have had more calls on people wanting to trade it for 4 wheelers, lawn mowers, even a 1989 Chevy Astro van! OMG!

As soon as the utility trailer is gone we will bring our new baby home! She's small and very basic, but she will suit us just fine.

Here is the "master bedroom" if you can call it that! It's separated by a curtain, but it does have a nice queen size bed with a real mattress! Better than a cold air mattress that slowly deflates, and at 2am you have to pull out the very noisy air compressor to fill it up only to get yelled at by the neighbors and wake your children!

And the girls have their own bunk house! There is also a full bath with shower! And a nice kitchen and fridge! I can't wait! No more cooking on a folding table over a messy and hot fire or propane grill, and washing dishes in plastic bins with ice cold water! We will still roast hot dogs and have s'mores, and make the occasional mush dinner over the open camp fire, but if I need to heat up some chicken nuggets because it's raining - I have a microwave! I know some people wouldn't call that camping, and maybe it's not, but it's still not a Hilton! Better yet, it's not a tent!

The colors below are ou colors, not what you see above.

Our first outing as soon as the ground thaw,s and the nighttime temps stay above freezing is going to be Turkey Run State Park. This is by far our favorite Indiana State park. The girls love trail 6, but are now big enough to do some more rugged trails! We can't wait!

Then there is the weekend we will be spending at Kings Island the last weekend in April for Layla's birthday. We have a RV campground called Cedarbrook we stayed at last year, and really enjoyed it! Very friendly staff and a pool and playground oh, and very clean showers should the need arise and we can't use ours!

Happy Trails!
